Pentel Co. Ltd. changing corporate name to ASTRUM CORPORATION as of 1 April 2026
Pentel plays a pivotal role in the stationery category as a group company under PLUS CORPORATION - whose Representative Director and President is Tadahisa Imaizumi and whose headquarters is Minato-ku, Tokyo (hereafter ‘PLUS’) - developing and operating its business within the stationery domain alongside PLUS Stationery Company (an internal company within PLUS), Nippon Notebook CORPORATION, and The Sailor Pen Co. Ltd. (hereafter, ‘Sailor Pen’).
A spokesperson said, “In order to drive our transformation towards becoming one of the world’s leading general stationery manufacturers the company has opted to conduct a staged merger through to 2028. Sailor Pen is expected to continue operating as an independent listed company moving forward. To highlight the significance of this integration, our corporate name is set to change from Pentel Co. Ltd. to ASTRUM CORPORATION.
“Astrum is a Latin word used to mean ‘celestial body’. As seen in the cave paintings at Lascaux, France, human intelligence is said to have begun with reading the night sky. Inspired by this, the word ‘astrum’ perfectly encapsulates the bridging of intelligence and sensitivity sought after in a stationery company. We put forth the ASTRUM name as both a symbol and a guiding light, bringing each stationery brand of the PLUS Group together into a cohesive whole, while each brand maintains its own unique brand identity.”
There are no plans to change the company names of other domestic and overseas affiliates within the PLUS Group stationery business. Furthermore, the Pentel name will be maintained as a business brand and will continue to operate globally without change.
