English party conferences

The English party conferences are now over, and the Commons got back to work on 13 October.

Labour has returned from Liverpool, following plenty of attacks on poll-leaders Reform and very little attention paid to their more traditional opponents. Speaking of whom, the Conservative Party met in Manchester where Kemi Badenoch gave her first conference speech as leader, with a surprise pledge to abolish stamp duty if the Conservatives are elected in 2029. Up in Scotland, the Scottish National Party held their conference in Aberdeen, with First Minister John Swinney launching a new policy paper on Scottish independence. At the conference, he proposed a referendum if the party gains a majority in next year’s election.
