Redundancy rules are changing - we need your input

The Department for Business & Trade is consulting on the detailed regulations underpinning collective redundancy rules under the Employment Rights Act 2025.

Currently, employers must undertake collective consultation where 20 or more redundancies are proposed at a single site within a 90-day period.

Under the new framework, the Government plans to introduce thresholds that apply across multiple sites, meaning employers with several locations may need to monitor redundancy numbers organisation-wide.

We’d really value your insight and practical experience.

If you have experience of collective redundancy consultations, please let us know:

  • How effective are collective redundancy consultations at preventing or reducing redundancies?
  • Are they a significant administrative or operational burden for employers?

If you operate across multiple sites:

  • How easy would it be to monitor redundancy numbers organisation-wide?
  • What threshold number or percentage would feel workable and proportionate?
