Marathon world record smashed in ‘Beat the Boss’ challenge!

On Sunday 23rd April, Shane Owen, Hamelin Brands UK Ltd Channel Sales Manager, successfully secured the world record for ‘fastest marathon dressed as a book (male)’. Shane took on this challenge to raise funds for the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR).

Last year, Philip Beer, Managing Director, secured the world record for ‘fastest marathon dressed as a book (male)’ in just 5 hours 34 minutes and 31 seconds. It was a tough record to beat and a close call right up until the finish line, but Shane crossed in 5 hours 19 minutes and 15 seconds, setting a NEW world record!

The drive for the attempt came following the loss of a colleague, Eddie Sampson, to cancer on the 28th July 2021. The costume that Shane ran in was named in memory of Eddie and has been inspired from the fact that Hamelin Brands is Europe’s largest manufacturer of Exercise Books.

Shane is a seasoned runner, but this was the first time he had attempted to run London marathon, let alone in a costume! Following his triumph, Shane is delighted to have set a new world record but was quick to add that he is happy to pass the baton, and the costume, back to Philip to have a further attempt and raise more funds!

Shane and his colleagues are grateful for the support received and the very generous donations received so far, all of which will be a big help to the ICR - supporting discoveries to defeat cancer. Donations are being collected via our JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/hamelin-brands2023
