evo Foundation Supports Halifax Community Hub with Funding for New Books

The evo Foundation has awarded a £500 grant to The Old Library in Skircoat Green, Halifax, helping the volunteer-run charity purchase new books for local residents and strengthen its role as a vital community space.

For generations, The Old Library has been at the heart of the local community, providing a welcoming place where people of all ages can read, learn, meet others and spend time together. Open to everyone and free to use, the library offers far more than books, serving as a hub for connection, conversation and inclusion.

As the library approaches its centenary in 2026, the funding from evo Foundation will enable the charity to expand its collection and provide even more opportunities for people across Halifax to enjoy the benefits of reading.

The support comes at a time when community spaces are increasingly important. The Old Library remains one of the few places in the area where anyone can walk in, sit down and feel welcome, without any expectation to spend money.

Helen Verity, Trustee of The Old Library, said:

"We are a small library with a huge heart. Every single person who walks through our doors matters to us, and this extraordinarily generous grant from the evo Foundation means we can put exciting new books into the hands of our readers, young and old. We cannot thank them enough."

The donation reflects the evo Foundation's commitment to supporting local organisations that create opportunities, tackle social isolation and improve quality of life within their communities.

Leanne Gregg, Trustee of the evo Foundation, said:

"It was a pleasure to visit The Old Library and learn more about the incredible impact it has on the local community. The library is much more than a place to borrow books; it's a welcoming space where people can come together, build connections and access opportunities to learn and grow. We are delighted to support the purchase of new books and help ensure this much-loved community asset continues to thrive for years to come."

Through grants, fundraising and volunteering initiatives, the evo Foundation supports charities and community projects that make a lasting difference across the UK and Ireland. By backing organisations such as The Old Library, the Foundation aims to help strengthen communities and create opportunities for people to connect, learn and flourish.
