Employment Rights - quick reminder of changes to come

It's now only seven weeks until some of the key measures of the Employment Rights Act will come into effect.

Here are the main ones which will be law from 6 April 2026:

  • ‘Day 1’ Paternity Leave and Unpaid Parental Leave
  • Bereaved Partners’ Paternity Leave
  • Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) – removing the Lower Earnings Limit (LEL) and waiting period 
  • action plans on gender equality and supporting employees through the menopause (voluntary) 
  • menopause guidance 
  • simplified trade union recognition process 
  • collective redundancy protective award – doubling the maximum period of the protective award 
  • whistleblowing – strengthening protections for workers who ‘blow the whistle’ on sexual harassment
