Ronan Keating launches Pentel partnership with Marie Keating foundation

Ronan Keating probably prefers to use something a little smaller when it comes to song writing, but he took a giant pink pen in hand to help writing instruments manufacturer Pentel launch its support for the Marie Keating Foundation.

The singer accompanied his sister Linda, who is Director of Fundraising for the Marie Keating Foundation, along with Pentel Marketing Manager, Wendy Vickery, and Shay Howlin, Managing Director of Ireland's Petit Pop Agencies, at the Sword's shopping centre in Dublin.

With Breast Cancer Awareness Month set to paint the town pink in offices, colleges, clubs and events, Ronan stepped in to help Pentel publicise its support for Marie Keating Foundation, Ireland's most pre-eminent charity supporting those affected by cancer.

Founded following the death of Marie Keating, mother of five, the charity educates men and women in relation to each of the key cancers:  breast, cervical, skin, lung, prostate, bowel and testicular.  The focus of its work is on cancers that are affected by lifestyle choices and early detection as key preventative measures.  With no government funding the Foundation relies on fundraising to provide its services, including public, workplace and schools awareness campaigns.

To support the Foundation Pentel is selling two special edition pink barrelled pens, each attracting a donation from Pentel to the charity.  EnerGel Xm is a retractable roller pen with a comfortable rubber grip and silver pocket clip.  For every pen it sells Pentel will donate €0.30 to the Marie Keating Foundation.  New for Breast Cancer Awareness Month is EnerGel Tradio, with its distinctive cap, featuring a see-through window and curved pocket clip.  For every EnerGel Tradio pen sold Pentel will donate €0.25 to the charity.  Both products will be available from leading stationery retailers.

EnerGel pens are ideal for both right and left-handed writers, thanks to their quick drying ink which reduces the likelihood of smudging on hands or paper.

Wendy Vickery, Marketing Manager for Pentel, said, "With Breast Cancer Awareness Month fast approaching we're delighted that Ronan and Linda were able to help publicise our support for the Marie Keating Foundation.  We hope that as many people as possible will choose pink for their pencil cases, handbags and desks to help us raise valuable funds to support the fantastic work of the charity."

Linda Keating said, "The Foundation is very excited to have Pentel on board, and we're hoping that pink pens will be successful now and throughout the year, helping us continue to provide much needed services to support those affected by cancer."

About the Marie Keating Foundation

Following their mother Marie's death in 1998 from breast cancer, the Keating family promised to try to provide all women and their families with vital information which could help them to prevent cancer or detect it at its earliest stages.  Their collective aim was to "enlighten not frighten".   The Marie Keating Foundation is now a leading voice in cancer awareness and information for both men and women in Ireland.  For further information visit www.mariekeatingfoundation.ie
