BOSS lobby government on prioritising the safe return to work for office based businesses
The letter outlines our industry's reliance on the occupation of offices, highlighting the reduction in consumption and sales volumes brought about by the mass migration to home working throughout the pandemic. It also emphasises the impact on other sectors referencing a PwC study warning of a potential £15.3bn hit to UK GDP every year if pandemic-levels of home working continue.
It raises concerns with the Governments 'work from home if you can' messaging which is at contradiction with the relaxing of restrictions in many other sectors of the economy, highlighting the lack of clarity which has caused confusion for employers and employees since its inception.
The letter asks the government to:
- Reconsider the June 21st date, to bring forward the return to workplaces to align with other sectors.
- Provide a clear 'return to work' message and consider incentives to encourage employee confidence in a safe return.
- Provide sufficient notice of any change to their messaging regarding the return to offices so our industry and businesses can plan for this.
