Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month October 2021

Pete Dixon, who has worked for EVO Group’s finance team for around 15 years, lost his Dad to heart failure when he was 15, this happened when he was playing hockey alongside his Dad. Memories of this event resurfaced for Pete which sparked a fire in him to use his experience to help others.

Heart failure / cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, even someone deemed really fit, Pete’s Dad was on the face of it a fit 50 year old man, still playing competitive sport every week. But there are 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests every year in the UK, that is 82 per day! We all deserve the chance to survive such an episode, this is why Pete is petitioning the government to make it a legal requirement for all workplaces with 10 full time staff or more to have a defibrillator on site. 

There are reportedly over 10,000 public defibrillators in the UK, but they are largely in affluent areas and only of use if your episode occurs within 800 metres of a defibrillator.  Without CPR or Defibrillation there is a 10% reduction in survival rates for every 1 minute after an attack.  Therefore in 5 minutes that’s a 50% reduction! Can you run a mile in 5 minutes to get a defibrillator?

Pete’s petition needs 10,000 signatures for the Government to respond to this, and 100,000 to be debated in Parliament. Please support by signing Pete’s petition and sharing this with your colleagues, friends and family…….
